Why are we giving this thought this much time and space? We haven't heard from Raven since the days of her 90's sitcom and we are giving her entirely too much space to spew ignorant comments. We comment and engage in conversation like it really matters what she says and thinks. It doesn't matter who she will or will not hire. Think about this. Someone named Raven says she wouldn't hire someone else because of their name. That's bad enough. what's worse though is that we are appalled and we are giving this thought space in our lives. It's trending a week after the statement is made. Why is Raven still trending?
We know that the statement was made in ignorance, bias and prejudice. We know that to hire or not hire someone based on their name is simply stupid. Who does that? My problem is not what Raven will or will not do, but that we are still talking about it.
She doesn't have any real value as an actress, or entertainer anymore. All she has to be effective in the entertainment world is the shock value and outrageous statements that she can generate to stay in the headlines and to be relevant. The more we talk about it, the more relevant she becomes in her ignorance.
I had not realized that she was a co-host on The View until she made that statement and here she is again in our faces. Don't do it. Let's stop talking about. Let's stop commenting and please let's not give ignorance a voice or a place in our lives.
