DID BILL COSBY'S ACCUSERS WAIT TOO LONG?
In looking at the blogs, there are almost as many people who believe Cosby and who stand by him and his reputation as there are against him. My opinion, after having read articles and depositions, and the victim accountings of events is that he probably did it. I have to say “probably” because I have no evidence, one way or the other.
Here’s the problem. This is a prime example of waiting too late to achieve desired results. There is actually no way to prove or disprove the allegations alleged against Bill Cosby. Short of him giving a full confession, we will never know the truth and the alleged victims will never get the results that they want. Maybe for the alleged victims, this is what they needed to move forward and to have closure. If the story is true, even though there are over 40 victims who have spoken up, there may be even more who haven’t, hopefully they too will have the closure that they need to move forward in their lives.
If you are going to open an investigation of any kind against someone accused of crimes, whether you are seeking civil or criminal recourse, you must understand what the outcome possibly entail. What is the measurable outcome for the accusers who waited so late? If the desired outcome is to mar Bill Cosby’s reputation, it worked. They have won. Maybe it was so that their story could be told and they could be heard? If so, their stories have been told.
If you are going to be an overcomer, if a wrong has been done to you, acknowledge it early as possible if you are going to have any kind of relief. At least get your story and if people believe you at the time, great, but if not, you will have a record that “this is what happened to me.” That’s what we take away from this travesty. If you wait too late, the relief you are seeking may not be available. Time is of the essence when you want to overcome.
